Montreal sci-fi death/thrash trio DISSIMULATOR are streaming their sophomore album, Artifice Dissolves, in full ahead of its release this Friday, October 2, via 20 Buck Spin.
Featuring drummer Philippe Boucher, bassist Antoine Daigneault, and guitarist/vocalist Claude Leduc, DISSIMULATOR brings together musicians associated with Chthe’ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation, Incandescence, and more. Artifice Dissolves follows the band’s debut album, Lower Form Resistance, pushing their technical death/thrash sound further into progressive and futuristic territory.
Across the record, DISSIMULATOR combines intricate guitar work, rapidly shifting rhythms, technical aggression, and a distinctly science-fiction atmosphere. Tracks including “Alloyed” and “Neon Metropolis” showcase the trio’s ability to move between high-speed attacks, progressive passages, and tightly controlled rhythmic shifts while maintaining the album’s cybernetic aesthetic.
The drums for Artifice Dissolves were recorded by Xavier Berthiaume at Productions Tehom. The band handled the majority of the remaining recording, with Laurent Bellemare contributing additional vocals to several tracks. Hugues Deslauriers at Roarrrsoundsstudio handled reamping, mixing, and mastering.
The album features artwork by Noah Cutter Meihoff, whose credits include Ghost and Imperial Triumphant, with layout by Audrey Pasquini of Bangs! Studio and photography by Kristel Boucher.
