Dutch black metal act DOODSWENS have released a new single and video titled “The Black Flame”, the latest preview from their upcoming self-titled second full-length album, arriving April 17 via Svart Records.

The track follows the previously released single “Driven By Death”, offering another glimpse into the band’s dark and ritualistic sonic world.

According to I., founder of the project, the song explores transformation through confrontation with darkness.

“The song depicts a dark ritual in which one completely exposes oneself and embraces one’s vulnerability, in order to ignite the inner fire and unleash the hidden power within oneself.”

The accompanying video visualizes this concept through a symbolic narrative: a wanderer searching for the unknown encounters a ritual led by a mysterious witch and her followers. What begins as observation gradually turns into participation, as the ritual involves scarification and blood sacrifice, drawing the viewer deeper into its unsettling atmosphere.

The band’s forthcoming self-titled album continues exploring the themes embedded in the project’s name. While “Doodswens” translates literally to Deathwish, the band frames the concept differently.

Rather than glorifying death, the record explores the psychological struggle with mortality and despair, ultimately focusing on confrontation, transformation, and renewed strength after facing darkness.

Formed in 2017, DOODSWENS began as the vision of I., who performs drums and vocals simultaneously during live performances, a rarity in extreme metal.

The live lineup also includes:

  • R. – bass
  • P. – guitar

The band quickly built an international reputation, touring alongside black metal heavyweights Marduk and Gorgoroth.

DOODSWENS’ live shows are often described as ceremonial and confrontational, designed not to comfort but to expose emotional darkness.

The band aims to create an experience that is both devastating and cathartic, forcing listeners to confront whatever inner demons they bring into the room.

The upcoming Doodswens album will be available on CD, digital formats, and multiple vinyl variants, including limited colored pressings and a classic black edition, marking another step forward for one of the most uncompromising voices in the modern black metal underground.
