UADA Reveal Haunting Cover of Rome’s “Der Brandtaucher”

Portland black metal band UADA have unveiled a haunting cover of “Der Brandtaucher”, originally written by Rome, the neo-folk project led by Jerome Reuter.

The track appears on Interwoven, an upcoming acoustic collection set for release April 10 via Eisenwald Records.

Listen to “Der Brandtaucher”:

A Personal Tribute

According to Jake Superchi, the decision to cover the track was deeply personal.

“Originally composed by Jerome Reuter and Patrick Damiani, this rendition was the final track chosen for Interwoven. Having followed Rome since 2008’s Masse Mensch Material, ‘Der Brandtaucher’ held deep personal resonance, especially during the most difficult chapter of my life. Its inclusion was not simply artistic — it was necessary.”

Interwoven presents a stripped-down reinterpretation of UADA’s music, featuring acoustic versions of songs spanning the band’s catalog alongside covers of artists that helped shape their sound.

The project traces one song from each era of the band’s discography while exploring influences outside the traditional boundaries of black metal.

Interwoven Tracklist

  1. Djinn
  2. Devoid of Light
  3. The Dark Winter
  4. The Purging Fire
  5. Der Brandtaucher (Rome cover)
  6. Something in the Way (Nirvana cover)

The album was engineered and mixed by Jake Superchi at Obsidian Spells between 2023 and 2024 and mastered by Arthur Rizk.

Cello on the record is performed by C.E. Brown, while the album artwork was photographed by Peter Beste.

10-Year Anniversary Tour

Uada will soon hit the road for The Witches of Dystopia Tour MMXXVI, a special co-headlining North American run with Mortiis.

The tour celebrates 10 years of Uada’s 2016 debut album Devoid of Light, which the band will perform in its entirety each night.

Additional performances will come from Jerome Reuter’s Rome and Wraith Knight, including a 30-year anniversary set for Ceremonial Castings.

The tour runs April 10 – May 16 across North America, with stops in cities including Chicago, Brooklyn, Toronto, Atlanta, Houston, Denver, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

Uada will also return to Milwaukee Metal Fest on June 7, marking their second appearance after performing at the festival’s 2024 edition.

With Interwoven, Uada peel back the layers of their black metal sound, presenting a raw and atmospheric acoustic interpretation of their music and influences, an experiment in vulnerability that reveals new dimensions of the band’s identity.
