American death/funeral doom band Evoken return with their seventh full-length album, Mendacium, due October 17th, 2025 via Profound Lore Records.
Following 2018’s Hypnagogia, Mendacium sees Evoken descend once more into cavernous heaviness, harkening back to the oppressive weight of Quietus and Antithesis Of Light, while weaving in gothic textures and experimental shadows reminiscent of Dead Can Dance and Disembowelment. Produced by longtime collaborator Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, the record radiates a sepulchral atmosphere steeped in dread and anguish, capturing the essence of an ancient cathedral’s depths.
Conceptually, Mendacium tells the tale of a 14th-century Benedictine monk, trapped by illness within monastery walls, whose torment blurs the line between divine suffering and the intrusion of a hideous entity from beyond reality.
