Chicago death metal trio FRIGID have unleashed their debut EP, Contempt of Decay, out today on digital and CD through Iron Fortress Records. Clocking in at over twenty minutes, the release delivers eight tracks of no-frills, groove-driven death metal, six new songs plus two bonus cuts, built on bulldozing riffs, concussive drumming, and a cold, punishing attitude.
Lead single “Fatal Wounds” captures the band’s wrecking-ball approach in under four minutes. Opening with blast beats that hit like a Mack truck, the track quickly settles into FRIGID’s signature Midwest stomp before closing with a tight, ripping solo that tips its hat to death metal’s formative era without overstaying its welcome.
Formed in October 2024, FRIGID consists of longtime collaborators Justin Robinson (drums/vocals), Ben Tufts (guitar/vocals), and Billy Pouch (bass). Despite their recent formation, the trio has already made noise in the Chicagoland scene, sharing stages with Necrot, Dead Heat, Killing Addiction, and Cemetery Filth.
Contempt of Decay was tracked, mixed, and mastered by Collin St. Mary at 19 Stars Studio, with additional editing by Zachary Pierce. Visuals were handled by gloomyanxiety, while FRIGID themselves took charge of logo design and photography, rounding out the release with a stark, frostbitten aesthetic that mirrors the music’s blunt-force impact.
