Texas death metal band Frozen Soul have just released “Absolute Zero”, a 53-second blast of punk-charged, hardcore-fueled death metal that wastes absolutely no time getting its point across.
Frontman Chad Green explains the track’s urgency and intent:
“More relevant than the day written — with all of the chaos happening in our country, with ICE killing and ripping apart families, ‘Absolute Zero’ comes as our stance against authoritarianism and the monsters that are enforcing it.”
Musically, it’s Frozen Soul at their most stripped-down and savage, no polish, no excess, just pure impact. The band lean hard into their punk and hardcore roots while keeping their crushing old-school death metal backbone fully intact.
The video matches that raw energy. Green recounts the DIY destruction behind it:
“I went and got the biggest sledgehammer I could find, and Sam carved ‘icebreaker’ into it… then I froze a skull I painted in my freezer, put it on a cinder block, and obliterated it. The best ice is crushed ice.”
Short, confrontational, and direct, the clip clocks in at just over a minute and feels more like a statement than a music video.
Emerging from Texas’ underground, Frozen Soul have built a reputation on all-inclusive, in-your-face death metal inspired by legends like Bolt Thrower, Mortician, and Obituary. Since their breakout EP Encased in Ice (2019) and full-lengths Crypt of Ice (2021) and Glacial Domination (2023), the band have become one of extreme metal’s most exciting modern bands.
They’ve shared stages with others including Dying Fetus, Blood Incantation, Amon Amarth, Killswitch Engage, and Napalm Death, and this April they hit the road across the U.S. alongside Avatar and Fleshgod Apocalypse.
