Hanover, Germany-based power metal band Grailknights released their new single “Necronomicon,” the first track from their upcoming seventh full-length album. The superhero-themed metallers, hailing from the fictional Grailham City, confront H.P. Lovecraft’s monstrous entity Cthulhu in the sunken city of R’lyeh, aiming to stop the ancient beast’s resurrection. The song opens with an eerie echo, followed by thunderous drums, a blazing intergalactic guitar solo, and a rallying chorus designed to summon metal fans.
The band stated, “Valiant Battlechoir, with ‘Necronomicon,’ we continue a journey we started on our ‘Knightfall’ album in 2018. We’ve always been fascinated by the world of H.P. Lovecraft – the atmosphere, the mystery, the sense of something vast and unknowable just beneath the surface. This song is our way of diving back into that universe. It’s also a spiritual follow-up to our earlier track ‘Cthulhu.’ This time we wanted to explore a different corner of that mythos though – something darker, more haunting, and a bit more epic in sound.” They recorded the track at GateStudio in Wolfsburg, Germany, with producer Sascha Paeth, focusing on capturing Lovecraft’s otherworldly mood while maintaining their heroic sound.

“Necronomicon” premiered live at Grailfest on May 2 and 3 at MusikZentrum Hanover. The band, consisting of Sir Optimus Prime (vocals), Sovereign Storm (guitars, vocals), Count Cranium (guitars, vocals), Duncan MacLoud (bass, vocals), and Lord Drumcules (drums), will embark on the “Battle Of Metal” co-headline tour with All For Metal starting October 16 at the same venue, covering 21 shows across 8 European countries. They’ll also perform on the sold-out Full Metal Cruise XII from September 20-30 and at Rock in Rautheim on May 8-9, 2026.
