British occult rock and doom metal band GREEN LUNG has released a new animated music video for “Ozymandias,” taken from its fourth studio album, Necropolitan, released September 11, 2026, through Nuclear Blast Records.
Arriving just in time for Halloween, the video features illustrations by Richard Wells and animation by Joseph Brett. The song draws inspiration from Percy Bysshe Shelley’s 1818 poem Ozymandias, which explores the impermanence of political power and the inevitable decline of human empires.
Vocalist Tom Templar comments on the new video and the band’s upcoming live performances:
“We’re excited to share a new animation from the arcane imaginations of illustrator Richard Wells and animator Joseph Brett as a Halloween treat. ‘Ozymandias’ is one of our favourite songs on this album to play in the practice space, and we can’t wait to play it on tour in December. Adapted from Percy Bysshe Shelley’s poem musing on the futility of human empire-building, his words couldn’t be more relevant for today.”
The release continues the visual presentation of Necropolitan, an album inspired by London’s history, folklore, and occult traditions. Its title references the seven Victorian garden cemeteries surrounding the British capital, reflecting the record’s recurring themes of mortality, nature, and the eventual collapse of human achievements.
Recorded in January 2026 at the historic Rockfield Studios in Wales, Necropolitan was produced, recorded, and mixed by Tom Dalgety, whose previous credits include OPETH and GHOST.
For the album, GREEN LUNG adopted a more direct recording approach, reducing the layers of instrumentation found on previous releases and recording much of the material live in the studio. The goal was to capture the band’s concert sound, emphasizing heavy guitar riffs, Hammond organ passages, and Mellotron arrangements.
The resulting nine-track record builds upon the musical direction established on 2023’s This Heathen Land, combining traditional doom metal influences with progressive rock, psychedelic elements, and the band’s distinctive storytelling.
Formed in London, GREEN LUNG emerged in 2018 with the independently released EP Free the Witch. The band subsequently released Woodland Rites in 2019 and Black Harvest in 2021 before signing with Nuclear Blast Records for This Heathen Land in 2023.
The latter reached No. 1 on the UK’s Official Rock & Metal Albums Chart, marking a significant milestone in the band’s career.
Throughout its discography, GREEN LUNG has drawn inspiration from British folklore, pagan mythology, and classic horror cinema, combining those themes with musical influences ranging from BLACK SABBATH and JUDAS PRIEST to progressive and psychedelic rock.

GREEN LUNG will embark on its Dance to the Grave Tour MMXXVI in December, with HIGH ON FIRE joining as special guests and GNOME providing additional support.
The tour will include performances across Belgium, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. The itinerary includes a hometown performance at London’s Roundhouse on December 16, while shows in Bristol and Dublin have already sold out.
The tour artwork was created by Richard Wells, continuing his visual collaboration with the band.
