Philadelphia-based progressive extreme metal band IATT have released a new music video for “Quietus,” the latest track to receive a visual treatment from their album Etheric Realms of the Night. The release concludes the band’s series of music videos accompanying the record, which also features a full-length film available through ThunderFlix.
Drawing inspiration from Greek tragedy, Etheric Realms of the Night explores the psychological conflict between reality and dreams. The album follows a protagonist struggling to reconcile her existence in the physical world with an increasingly consuming dream realm.
“Quietus” represents a pivotal moment in the narrative, examining the protagonist’s growing inner turmoil and eventual surrender to the dream world. Seeking refuge from the difficulties of waking life, she becomes trapped in perpetual sleep, ultimately leading to her death.
Musically, the composition combines theatrical piano arrangements, atmospheric orchestration, and dissonant harmonies with aggressive percussion and harsh vocals. The contrast between delicate instrumental passages and heavier sections reflects the psychological tension at the center of the song.
The accompanying video continues the album’s cinematic narrative, using visual storytelling to expand upon the themes of isolation, escapism, and the consequences of retreating from reality.
Throughout Etheric Realms of the Night, IATT explore themes of consciousness, identity, and transformation through compositions that incorporate blackened extreme metal, progressive structures, and classical influences. The album’s seven tracks form an interconnected narrative, supported by recurring musical motifs and atmospheric arrangements.
Formed in Philadelphia in 2008, IATT have developed a sound that combines technical guitar work, extreme metal aggression, and orchestral instrumentation. Previous releases, including Nomenclature and Magnum Opus, established the band’s approach to progressive songwriting, incorporating elements of jazz, classical music, and atmospheric metal.
The band’s emphasis on visual storytelling has also become a defining element of their work, with interconnected videos and cinematic presentations accompanying their musical releases.
With the release of “Quietus,” IATT complete the visual series for Etheric Realms of the Night, further developing the album’s exploration of psychological conflict and the relationship between dreams and reality.
