Gruesome Drops “Condemned Identity” Single and Video from Silent Echoes Album

Death metal band Gruesome has released their third single, “Condemned Identity,” along with a music video, from their upcoming album Silent Echoes, out June 6, 2025, via Relapse Records. This marks the band’s first full-length in seven years since 2018’s Twisted Prayers. The track, described by the band as a “no-brainer leadoff,” showcases a balance of their evolved, articulate sound while staying rooted in death metal’s ferocity. “It’s more articulate and musical than what we’ve done before, but it can still rip your face off,” the band stated. Silent Echoes, an 8-track tribute to Death’s 1991 album Human, reflects Gruesome’s shift toward a more progressive and nuanced sound, inspired by the late Chuck Schuldiner. The album honors Cynic and Human-era Death drummer Sean Reinert, who passed away in 2020 and was meant to produce it. Drummer Gus Rios, a mentee of Reinert, used the same snare from Cynic’s Focus during recording at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, FL, under producer Jarrett Pritchard, with guidance from Death’s Scott Burns. The band—Rios, Matt Harvey (vocals/guitar), Daniel Gonzalez (guitar), and Robin Mazen (bass)—also released a mini-documentary on the album’s making, featuring interviews with Pritchard and Burns. Tracks like “A Darkened Window” and the title song have already been shared, building anticipation for this nod to Tampa’s early ‘90s death metal scene.
