Gruesome Shares Title Track “Silent Echoes” from Upcoming Third Album

Death metal band Gruesome has released the title track “Silent Echoes” from their third full-length album, set to drop on June 6, 2025, via Relapse Records. The single, which premiered today, May 6, 2025, is streaming now on the Relapse YouTube channel. Fans can pre-order the album in LP/CD/CS/digital formats at relapse.com/collections/gruesome-silent-echoes.

Formed in 2014 as a tribute to Death’s early era, Gruesome—vocalist/guitarist Matt Harvey, guitarist Daniel Gonzalez, bassist Robin Mazen, and drummer Gus Rios—shifts gears with Silent Echoes, embracing the progressive, jazz-influenced complexity of Death’s 1991 album Human. The band comments, “This tune should give you a good sense of what we’re doing in this new era—melodic, musical, heavy, and dynamic, while still keeping the DEATH in Death Metal.” The album, their first in seven years since 2018’s Twisted Prayers, also honors the late Sean Reinert, drummer of Cynic and Human-era Death, who passed in 2020. Reinert’s influence looms large, with Rios using the same snare drum from Cynic’s Focus.

Produced by Jarrett Pritchard at New Constellation Studios in Orlando, Silent Echoes recaptures the early ‘90s Tampa death metal sound, with artwork by Travis Smith. The album features eight tracks, including the previously released “A Darkened Window,” whose video (directed by The COIN) is also on YouTube. For fans of old-school death metal with a progressive edge, this release is a fitting tribute to Chuck Schuldiner’s legacy. Stream “Silent Echoes” and pre-order now!
