Portland heavy rock trio HIPPIE DEATH CULT have released “Blood, Grit & Bone,” their first new studio material in three years and their first release since signing with Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.
The standalone single arrives as the band continues its current European and UK tour, with a US run alongside CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and THE SWORD set to follow in November.
“‘Blood, Grit & Bone’ is a powerful, unapologetic statement of resilience — a fierce anthem of self-acceptance that celebrates the strength found in aging, the beauty of hard-earned scars, and defiant confidence in the face of societal judgment,” the band explains.
Musically, the track connects different eras of heavy music, moving from the foundational grit of the 1970s toward the speed and percussive intensity associated with thrash metal.
“Blood, Grit & Bone” marks HIPPIE DEATH CULT’s first new studio release since Helichrysum, which arrived in 2023 and was the band’s first full-length featuring bassist Laura Phillips on lead vocals.
Originally formed in Portland, Oregon, HIPPIE DEATH CULT currently consists of Phillips, guitarist Eddie Brnabic, and drummer Harry Silvers. The trio combines heavy riffs and deep grooves with psychedelic textures and melodic songwriting, bridging classic heavy rock with a more contemporary approach.
The band’s catalog also includes their 2019 debut, 111, and 2021’s Circle Of Days. Following their transition into a power trio and the release of Helichrysum, HIPPIE DEATH CULT spent much of the following years on the road, playing more than 250 shows across North America and Europe.
Their current European and UK tour runs through October 30, wrapping up at Blondies in London. The band will then return to the US for a November tour with CORROSION OF CONFORMITY and THE SWORD, beginning November 2 in Buffalo, New York and running through November 19 in Pensacola, Florida.
HIPPIE DEATH CULT will follow the tour with a series of headlining dates through Texas, Arizona, and California, concluding November 29 in Oakland.
Now working with Blacklight Media and Metal Blade Records, “Blood, Grit & Bone” signals the beginning of the band’s next phase, with more new music expected in 2027.
