Ukrainian modern metal band IGNEA have released their new single “Prefab,” featuring Andy LaPlegua of Combichrist. The track is the third single from the band’s forthcoming album, Monumental, due October 23, 2026 via Napalm Records.
Built around an aggressive collision of modern metal, aggrotech, and electro-industrial sounds, “Prefab” pairs the vocals of Helle Bohdanova with LaPlegua’s unmistakable industrial delivery. The result pushes IGNEA further into electronic territory while remaining anchored by the band’s heavy, riff-driven foundation.
The single also expands upon Monumental’s central theme of nostalgia, examining architecture and collective memory through the legacy of prefabricated socialist housing.
“‘Prefab’ reflects on the darker side of nostalgia — prefabricated socialist buildings, originally meant to give everyone a roof over their heads,” Bohdanova explains.
For the accompanying music video, IGNEA recreates the confined atmosphere of a typical Soviet-era apartment, presenting a uniform environment in which the inhabitants change while the surrounding structure remains.
Bohdanova says the collaboration with LaPlegua felt like a natural extension of the song.
“When we shaped the demo around ‘Prefab,’ we were basically hearing Andy’s vocals in the back of our minds, and we’re so glad he agreed to lend his voice,” she says. “Having Combichrist as part of the industrial metal banger on our upcoming album — what could be more iconic?”
Monumental Arrives October 23
Monumental is IGNEA’s second full-length album written during the full-scale war in Ukraine. Much of the recording took place in Kyiv during the winter of 2025-2026 amid freezing temperatures and extended power outages.
The record follows 2023’s Dreams of Lands Unseen and explores nostalgia across nine tracks, moving through subjects including Cold War-era visions of the future, urban decay, modernist architecture, and personal and collective memory.
“Back in the 17th century, nostalgia was considered a deadly disease — and in many ways, it still is,” Bohdanova says. “It’s a universal feeling experienced by every human being, pulling us toward a past that felt gentler than it truly was, especially during the bitter moments of the present.”
Modernist architecture became one of the album’s major sources of inspiration, particularly structures originally designed as symbols of technological and social progress that have since fallen into decay.
“They’ve become a sort of memory box: monuments to unrealized dreams, where the future that was once imagined never arrived, yet continues to echo through the ruins and bright mosaics,” Bohdanova adds.
Musically, Monumental combines technical metal riffs, industrial textures, atmospheric passages, melodic sections, and large-scale choruses. Its visual identity similarly draws from retrofuturism, monumental architecture, and industrial design.
All lyrics were written by Bohdanova, while keyboardist Yevhenii Zhytniuk composed the music with additional contributions from Bohdanova. Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Amaranthe, Arch Enemy, Epica, Amon Amarth) handled mixing and mastering.
