New York death metal legends IMMOLATION have announced their twelfth studio album, Descent, set for release on April 10 via Nuclear Blast Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has unveiled the first single and video from the record, “Adversary”, offering an early glimpse into what promises to be one of the most formidable releases of their career.
Formed in the late 1980s and forever etched into death metal history with their 1991 debut Dawn of Possession, IMMOLATION continue to refine a sound that is instantly recognizable. Anchored by Bob Vigna’s twisted, atmospheric guitar work and Ross Dolan’s commanding growl, the band remains one of the genre’s most influential and uncompromising forces.
“Adversary” arrives as a merciless opening statement. Built on blast beats, and a high production, the track balances brutality with the dark, immersive atmosphere that has defined IMMOLATION for decades. The accompanying video, directed by Vigna himself, mirrors the song’s oppressive intensity.
“We are really excited to release Descent this year”, the band states. “The vibe and feel of this new one is almost addictive. This album takes what we’ve done on the last couple of records and truly brings it to a new level. It stays true to our roots, but also goes into some new territory. It’s truly one of the best records we’ve done, with an amazing production, atmosphere and flow.”
The album was recorded across multiple studios, with guitars, bass, and vocals tracked at Jpass Music, drums captured at Mercinary Studios, and mixing and mastering handled by longtime collaborator Zack Ohren. Visually, IMMOLATION once again enlisted renowned artist Eliran Kantor for the album cover, with additional illustrations by Santiago Jaramillo, ensuring the release matches the band’s sonic weight with striking imagery.
