Finnish melodic death metal band INSOMNIUM have unveiled “Arch of the Sky,” the third single from their forthcoming album, Netherworlds, due October 16.
Accompanied by a video directed by Patric Ullaeus for rEvolver.se, “Arch of the Sky” finds INSOMNIUM exploring a more progressive side of their signature melancholic sound while drawing its lyrical inspiration from Sámi mythology.
Guitarist and clean vocalist Ville Friman explains:
“‘Arch of the Sky’ introduces a proggier side of the Netherworlds, featuring time signature changes and Insomnium’s trademark blend of mellow passages and heavier sections. Lyrically, the song is inspired by Sámi mythology, in which celestial hunters pursue a deer across the arch of the sky in perpetual motion. According to the legend, if the deer were ever caught, the world would come to an end as the roof of the sky collapsed.”

The accompanying visual combines a performance from the band with traditional animation depicting the mythological story at the heart of the song. The single artwork was created by renowned artist Travis Smith.
“Arch of the Sky” marks the third preview of Netherworlds, continuing to reveal the musical and thematic direction of INSOMNIUM’s upcoming record ahead of its October release.

Following selected summer festival appearances, INSOMNIUM will embark on extensive touring around the world. The band will join AMORPHIS and HINAYANA for a North American run beginning November 17 in Boston and concluding December 19 in New York City.
