Nashville-based Japanese horror-inspired USBM duo SAIDAN have unveiled their haunting new single, “Ethereal Blood,” alongside a cinematic new music video, while also announcing a massive U.S. tour in support of atmospheric black metal act Trhä. The track is taken from the band’s forthcoming fourth full-length album, FANGDRILLER: Scars Beneath Memory’s Wrist, due out June 19 via Avantgarde Music.
Serving as a prequel to 2024’s Visual Kill: The Blossoming of Psychotic Depravity, FANGDRILLER follows the story of The Student (Junko), a fractured soul haunted by loneliness and emotional isolation who becomes entangled with a mysterious cult known as Ethereal Blood.
Vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Splatterpvnk comments on the new single:
“‘Ethereal Blood’ is an essential part of the conceptual identity of Fangdriller. Whereas many of the other songs on the album use metaphorical imagery to explain where I was emotionally at the time, ‘Ethereal Blood’ is a perverse initiation into something seemingly pure, yet shrouded in violent isolation.”
Musically, FANGDRILLER blends lo-fi Visual Kei aesthetics with gothic black metal, fusing blistering guitar solos, deranged vocal performances, anthemic riffing, and savage drumming with modern breakcore influences. The result is a uniquely nostalgic yet forward-thinking record that channels emotional devastation through theatrical darkness and underground extremity.
Since emerging in 2020, SAIDAN have quickly become one of the most distinctive acts in the modern USBM scene. Formed in the wake of tragedy, the duo built momentum through a series of demos, splits, and critically acclaimed full-length releases including Jigoku: Spiraling Chasms of the Blackest Hell (2021), Onryō II: Her Spirit Eternal (2022), and Visual Kill: The Blossoming of Psychotic Depravity (2024).
The upcoming album was mixed and mastered by Splatterpvnk and features cover artwork by Japanese visual artist Seiyak17, continuing the band’s strong visual identity rooted in horror aesthetics and classic Japanese subculture influences.
In support of the new record, SAIDAN will join Trhä and Barbelith for an extensive U.S. tour beginning July 23 in Indianapolis, IN and concluding August 8 in Charlotte, NC. The run includes a Florida stretch featuring stops in Pensacola, Tampa, and Miami at the legendary Churchill’s Pub.
