Hard rock American supergroup King Ultramega, formed in 2020 in New York has released a powerful cover of Soundgarden’s Rusty Cage as a tribute to Chris Cornell, available via Reigning Phoenix Music. The video, directed by Costin Chioreanu, is on YouTube, and the track can be streamed at kingum.rpm.link/rustycagePR.
Featuring William DuVall (Alice in Chains, vocals), Bill Kelliher (Mastodon, guitars), Mark Menghi (Metal Allegiance, bass), and Charlie Benante (Anthrax, drums), the single supports MusiCares’ mental health and addiction recovery services, as noted by Metal Injection for its “thunderous” energy. DuVall says, “I leaned into my love for the song and respect for Chris,” staying true to the original’s spirit. Future releases will feature rotating artists like Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) and Joe Satriani, covering Cornell’s work.
