Raleigh, North Carolina traditional heavy metal band Mega Colossus are gearing up for the release of their new studio album Watch Out!, arriving March 6 via Cruz Del Sur Music on CD, vinyl, and digital formats.
Serving as the band’s second full-length for the label, Watch Out! delivers seven tracks of melodic, fearless, and unapologetically classic heavy metal. The first single, “Battlefront”, is available now alongside an energetic new music video, offering the first taste of the band’s most confident statement to date.
Formed in 2005, Mega Colossus have long championed a high-energy, traditional heavy metal sound rooted in melody, harmony, and personality rather than trends. With a stable lineup since 2021 and momentum carried over from 2023’s critically praised Showdown, the band now returns in peak form.
Recorded at Warrior Sound in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and produced by Al Jacob with mixing by Matt Tuttle, Watch Out! captures Mega Colossus harnessing their strengths at full throttle. The album blends blazing guitar solos, intricate twin-guitar harmonies, and ambitious four-part vocal arrangements, while venturing into new territory with unexpected shifts in style and dynamics.
Often associated with the New Wave of Traditional Heavy Metal, Mega Colossus reject modern conventions entirely—no down-tuning, no harsh vocals, no exaggerated darkness. Instead, they deliver speed, melody, and classic heavy metal energy, with songwriting that moves freely between punk-inspired thrash, Thin Lizzy-styled hard rock, and adventurous heavy metal structures.
One of the album’s standout moments arrives with “The Halls Of Mystikos,” a Uriah Heep-inspired track that begins with eerie restraint before erupting into full-scale heavy metal. Throughout the record, layered vocals and bold arrangements highlight a band willing to take chances in pursuit of memorable, timeless songs.
Lyrically, Mega Colossus continue to carve a unique path, focusing on science fiction, storytelling, escapism, and camaraderie rather than anger or nihilism. Frontman Sean Buchanan, himself a science fiction author, brings imaginative worlds and narratives into the band’s songwriting, reinforcing their identity as storytellers as much as metal craftsmen.
Renowned for their approachable nature and strong underground following in the U.S. and Germany, Mega Colossus will support Watch Out! with European festival appearances and club shows in 2026, including returns to Hell Over Hammaburg and Up the Hammers.
With its blend of tradition, adventure, and pure heavy metal joy, Watch Out! stands as Mega Colossus’ most fully realized release yet—proof that classic heavy metal remains as vital, melodic, and fun as ever.
