NETHERWILDS have announced their debut album, Peasant Rising, due out October 9 via King Volume Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has released the new single “Siege Proof Hovel,” the latest chapter in the ongoing story of Worm Chewer, the unlikely peasant hero at the center of the album’s narrative.
Following the release of “Return the Goat,” the new track finds Worm Chewer taking his first stand against the oppressive ruling class. Convinced that his hastily constructed, moat-protected home can withstand a lord’s hunting party, his confidence quickly collides with reality. The failed defense ultimately teaches him that overthrowing tyranny requires more than one determined peasant, setting the stage for the rebellion that unfolds throughout Peasant Rising.
Musically, “Siege Proof Hovel” continues NETHERWILDS’ blend of blackened metal, medieval folk, doom, and cinematic storytelling. The song also features a guest mandolin solo by Hole Dweller, adding another layer to the project’s medieval atmosphere.
Created by David Monks of Tokyo Police Club, NETHERWILDS expands the viral “Worm Chewer” character into a fully realized fantasy world. Produced and mixed by Jesse Turnbull (Dear-God, Doflame), Peasant Rising tells a sweeping story across 22 tracks, chronicling Worm Chewer’s transformation from overworked laborer to reluctant revolutionary through a mix of humor, social allegory, and heavy riffs.
