Ominous Ruin Releases Requiem on Willowtip Records

San Francisco’s technical death metal band Ominous Ruin has released their second full-length album, Requiem, last Friday, May 9, 2025, via Willowtip Records. The nine-track album is available on CD, vinyl (including a Random Eco Mix edition), and digital formats, and can be streamed or purchased at willowtip.com, ominousruin.bandcamp.com, Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

Formed in 2011, Ominous Ruin—Alex Bacey (guitars), Joel Guernsey (guitars), Mitch Yoesle (bass), Harley Blandford (drums), and new vocalist Crystal Rose—builds on their 2021 debut Amidst Voices that Echo in Stone. Requiem opens with a somber piano and guitar intro, a direct continuation from their debut’s final track, before erupting into the chaotic “Seeds of Entropy,” a 270 BPM onslaught of tremolo riffs and savage vocals. The album, born from personal turmoil, explores the human psyche, time’s ravages, and oblivion, blending blistering technicality with emotional depth. Produced and mixed by Bacey, with drums recorded by Cody Fuentes and vocals by Petr Oplatka, the sound is dense yet pristine, featuring ambient layers and acoustic breaks. The artwork by Pär Olofsson complements its dark themes.
