Milwaukee-based doom project Liminal Spirit, the solo endeavor of multi-instrumentalist Jerry Hauppa (Northless, Ara, Deorbit), has released its sophomore EP, Pathways, today, May 9, 2025. The single-track, 14-minute EP is available on digital platforms, including Bandcamp, Spotify, and YouTube.

Hauppa, who handles guitar, bass, drum programming, synthesizer, and vocoder, describes Pathways as “seance music,” a sonic backdrop for channeling spiritual passages. The fully through-composed piece—meaning no sections repeat until the epilogue—follows five characters trapped in a maze, structured like a stage play with intermissions and an epilogue. The characters’ spoken lines form the lyrics, with the music shifting to reflect their emotional states. Recorded and mixed by Hauppa, mastered by Jeff Wojtysiak at Spiral Sound Studios, and featuring artwork by James Becker, the EP follows Liminal Spirit’s self-titled debut album from December 2024.
While Hauppa’s vision is ambitious, blending progressive doom with experimental elements akin to Jesu or Swans. Pathways offers a haunting, singular experience. Stream it now!
