To mark the one-year anniversary of The Last Will and Testament, OPETH have unveiled a brand-new animated video for “§3”, created by Absynthe Moon Media. The film expands the album’s richly layered narrative, translating its tension, mystery, and emotional undercurrents into a striking visual companion.
Returning to the central family saga that anchors The Last Will and Testament, the “§3” video revisits the pivotal moment surrounding the reading of a 1920s patriarch’s will. Through nuanced character animation and symbolic imagery, the short film captures the shifting alliances, hidden motives, and generational fractures that define the album’s story, while still leaving viewers space for their own interpretations.
Guided by Mikael Åkerfeldt’s concept and narrative vision, the video deepens the album’s core themes: identities shaped and distorted by secrecy, legacies built on uncertain ground, and the unraveling of those who believed they understood their place within a crumbling lineage. The result is a visually immersive counterpart to one of OPETH’s most ambitious and cinematic works.
