Ov Sulfur Debuts Crushing New Single/Video “Vast Eternal”

Blackened deathcore force Ov Sulfur will unleash their sophomore album, Endless, on January 16th via Century Media Records. Fronted by the inimitable Ricky Hoover, the Las Vegas quintet sharpen their sound even further on this new chapter, diving deeper into blackened extremity while embracing melodic elements that expand their signature, genre-obliterating heaviness.

“Vast Eternal” – A Descent Into Isolation and Nothingness

Guitarist/vocalist Chase Wilson describes the new single as a plunge into existential dread:

“Imagine if you died and were all alone in an endless void of nothingness—no friends, no family, just infinite darkness and loneliness. That’s the mood we wanted. Leviathvn took the reins on this one—his first Ov Sulfur track as lead writer—with a chaotic black-metal chorus and war-march verse. The song is a mental breakdown set to music: a person losing their sanity in the endless void.”

Vocalist Ricky Hoover expands on the personal dream states that inspired the lyrics:

“Since my grandma passed—who we dedicated ‘Wither’ to—I’ve had recurring dreams where my consciousness exists in nothingness forever. In that place, there’s no Heaven, no Hell…just nothingness.”

On Endless, Ov Sulfur expand the infernal soundscapes introduced on their 2023 debut, The Burden Ov Faith. With Ricky Hoover’s commanding vocal presence leading the charge, the band shifts toward a more metaphorical exploration of faith, eternity, and human fragility.

The album imagines the torment of eternal life: doubt, grief, longing, fear, emotions stretched into infinity until the mind breaks. Leviathvn’s pulverizing drums and Wilson’s gravelly cleans pair seamlessly with Hoover’s extremes, amplified further by the band’s newest touring members, bassist Josh Bearden and guitarist Christian Becker.

Ov Sulfur also push their melodic potential further than ever. Tracks like “Wither” and the ballad “Endless//Loveless” highlight Hoover’s vocal evolution:

“I was only supposed to sing a soft intro on ‘Earthen’ last album,” Hoover recalls. “Once Chase and our producer heard it, we rewrote a ton. This time, Chase even taught me falsetto in-studio—I was genuinely shocked I hit the notes.”

Wilson adds:

“There’s tons of vocal interplay between us—something we hinted at on ‘The Inglorious Archetype.’ You hear it on ‘Evermore,’ and we practically split ‘Wither’ 50/50 since it’s about us both losing grandparents.”

Guest vocalists Johnny Ciardullo (Carcosa), Josh Davies (Ingested), and Alan Grnja (Distant) add further dynamic mayhem, joining a growing list of collaborators that includes Howard Jones, Alex Terrible, and more.
