Gothic metal pioneers Paradise Lost are set to release their 17th studio album, Ascension, on September 19, 2025, via Nuclear Blast Records. With over two million records sold and a legacy spanning more than three decades, the Halifax, UK-based band continues to shape the dark side of metal. Ascension promises to deliver their signature blend of crushing doom riffs, mournful melodies, and thunderous gothic metal, exploring the existential unrest of the human experience across ten new tracks.

Produced by guitarist Gregor Mackintosh and mixed by Lawrence Mackrory, the album features artwork adapted from George Frederic Watts’ painting The Court of Death, reflecting themes of surrender and mortality. To celebrate the pre-order launch, Paradise Lost have released the first single, “Silence Like The Grave,” accompanied by a music video that showcases their brooding, melancholic grandeur.

Formed in 1988, Paradise Lost are celebrated for defining gothic metal with their seminal 1991 album Gothic and conquering the mainstream with 1995’s Draconian Times. Their evolution has spanned death/doom, alt-rock (One Second, Host), and ornate grandeur (Faith Divides Us – Death Unites Us), with recent albums The Plague Within (2015) and Medusa (2017) marking a return to their brutal roots. Ascension builds on this legacy, blending heavy metal intensity with sky-high melody and their signature minor-key melancholy.
In support of Ascension, Paradise Lost will embark on the Ascension of Europe Tour 2025, kicking off October 9 in Manchester, UK, with stops across Europe, including Cologne, Munich, and Nürnberg in Germany. Italian doom band Messa will support all dates, with High Parasite opening UK shows and Lacrimas Profundere joining select European dates. Full tour details are available at paradiselost.co.uk.
