SABATON Release Battle-Ready New Single “Yamato” with World of Warships

Swedish heavy metallers Sabaton have unveiled their powerful new single “Yamato”, created in collaboration with the historically inspired naval game World of Warships, developed by Wargaming.

The track arrives via Better Noise Music, following the band’s 2025 album Legends, their first full-length release with the label.

A Song About a Legendary Battleship

“Yamato” tells the story of the Japanese battleship Yamato, the largest battleship ever constructed by the Imperial Japanese Navy. Built in secrecy and launched during 1941, the vessel represented the ultimate symbol of naval power.

In 1945, the ship embarked on a final mission during the Battle of Okinawa, sailing on what became a suicide mission to defend Okinawa. Despite overwhelming attacks from U.S. aircraft and fleets, the battleship fought until a massive explosion ultimately sank it.

The story perfectly fits Sabaton’s signature style, epic heavy metal songs centered on real historical events and battles.

“Yamato” acts as a spiritual successor to Sabaton’s hugely popular 2019 single “Bismarck”, which also partnered with World of Warships.

That track became one of the band’s biggest songs, surpassing 116 million Spotify streams and 100+ million YouTube views.

According to vocalist Joakim Brodén, the band always intended to revisit naval warfare themes:

“Battleships are interesting and naval stories have, from time to time, been part of the Sabaton lore… ‘Yamato’ is sort of a follow-up to that song.”

Bassist Pär Sundström added that fans had been requesting a song about the legendary Japanese ship for years.

The music video was filmed in Belgrade, Serbia, placing the band aboard the doomed battleship during its final moments.

To create a realistic sinking effect:

  • The band performed while submerged in freezing water
  • Members wore weights beneath their stage clothes to simulate sinking
  • Professional divers remained on site for safety

Despite waves crashing across the set, the band continues playing as the ship descends beneath the ocean.

The collaboration goes beyond the song itself. In-game content now includes:

  • A Sabaton-branded Yamato battleship
  • Voice lines from Joakim Brodén and Pär Sundström
  • The option to replace battle music with “Yamato” or “Bismarck”

This transforms gameplay into a full metal-powered naval battle experience.
