German thrash metal pioneers Sodom have released the official lyric video for their new single “Taphephobia”. The track is from their forthcoming album The Arsonist, set to drop on June 27, 2025, through SPV/Steamhammer. Created by Ingo Spörl, the video complements the song’s dark theme, which frontman Tom “Angelripper” Such describes as “an abnormal phobia of being buried alive as a result of being incorrectly pronounced dead.” Drummer Toni Merkel, also a skilled guitarist, contributed the track, adding versatility to the album’s sound.

The Arsonist, Sodom’s first full-length since 2020’s Genesis XIX, features 13 tracks, including previously released singles “Trigger Discipline” and “Witchhunter.” The album was recorded with a 24-track analog tape machine for authenticity, with Angelripper noting, “No plastic! The difference in sound compared to today’s standard drum productions is amazing.” Mastered by Eroc, with cover art by Zbigniew M. Bielak (Ghost, Mayhem), it showcases the band’s diverse songwriting, involving all members—Angelripper (vocals, bass), Frank Blackfire (guitar), York Segatz (guitar), and Merkel (drums).
