German thrash metal band Sodom have unleashed their new single “Witchhunter,” a ferocious track from their forthcoming album The Arsonist, set for release on June 27, 2025, via SPV/Steamhammer. The song, released today, May 7, 2025, at 6:00 AM EDT, comes with a music video directed by Andy Brings of Twinflame Productions. Fans can pre-order the album in CD digipak, 2LP, and digital formats at sodom.lnk.to/TheArsonist.

Formed in 1981 in Gelsenkirchen, Sodom—led by bassist/vocalist Thomas “Angelripper” Such, alongside guitarist Frank “Blackfire” Gosdzik, drummer Toni Merkel, and second guitarist Yorck Segatz—has been a cornerstone of thrash metal, influencing the genre with their raw, aggressive sound. “Witchhunter” pays tribute to the late Chris “Witchhunter” Dudek, Sodom’s original drummer who passed in 2008, with lyrics like “A pioneer, no boundaries / The leader of your enemies,” reflecting his fierce spirit. The track blends classic thrash riffs with a driving rhythm, echoing the band’s early days while maintaining a modern edge. Following their first single “Trigger Discipline,” which landed on Metal Hammer’s best new metal songs list, The Arsonist promises to be a 13-track onslaught of unrelenting thrash.
Sodom is scaling back on touring in 2025, with Angelripper citing a need for more family time and personal pursuits like hunting, but they’ll still hit festivals like Copenhell (June 21) and Rock Harz (July 3). “Witchhunter” is a thrash anthem not to miss.
