Montreal sci-fi rockers SONS OF ARRAKIS have announced their new album, Volume III, set for release January 22, 2027 via Black Throne Productions. The band has also unveiled the first single, “Rise Of Disaster,” featuring guest vocals from Luc Bourgeois of SANDVEISS.
Drawing inspiration from Frank Herbert’s Dune universe, SONS OF ARRAKIS describe their distinctive blend of heavy, riff-driven rock and cinematic storytelling as “melange rock” and “cinematic sci-fi rock.” With Volume III, the band continues developing that combination of heavy riffs, atmosphere, and expansive sonic landscapes.
“Rise Of Disaster” turns its attention toward themes of war, manipulation, fear, and the exploitation of collective trauma.
“‘Rise of Disaster’ deals with war, manipulation and the way fear, suffering and collective trauma can be exploited by political and economic powers,” the band explains. “One of the major influences behind the lyrics was Naomi Klein’s The Shock Doctrine and its examination of how moments of crisis can be used to impose new forms of control.”
At the center of the track is the recurring question, “Whose side are you on?”
“The recurring question ‘Whose side are you on?’ deliberately has no simple answer,” SONS OF ARRAKIS continue. “It reflects the pressure to choose between competing narratives while the same cycle of violence, destruction and retaliation continues underneath them.”
Musically, “Rise Of Disaster” moves through a darker landscape driven by urgent rhythms and heavy riffs. More melodic choruses provide contrast before the track descends into a chaotic instrumental finale.
Volume III was produced by SONS OF ARRAKIS and recorded at Red Tube Studio and various home studios with Luc Boivin, Frederic Couture, and Francis Duchesne. Karl Daniel Lidén handled mixing and mastering, while Alexandre Goulet of Goulet Design created the album and single artwork.
The record follows 2024’s Volume II, which reached No. 3 on the Doom Charts following its release and landed inside the publication’s year-end Top 10.
Since forming in Montreal in 2019, SONS OF ARRAKIS have steadily expanded beyond Canada. Recent years have included the band’s first US tour and appearances at Planet Desert Rock Weekend IV, Stoom Fest in the UK, Into The Void, Up In Smoke, Krach am Bach, Rock im Wald, Free & Easy, and Sauzipf Rocks. The band also joined VOIVOD for a Western Canadian tour in 2026.
