STATIC ABYSS have released their third studio album, The Dying Hunt, today via Peaceville Records. To coincide with the release, the death metal outfit have unveiled a disturbing new music video for “Sinew Leech,” created by Matt Vickerstaff.
Formed in the early 2020s, STATIC ABYSS centers around AUTOPSY members Greg Wilkinson on guitars and bass and Chris Reifert on vocals, with Reifert also known for his early tenure with death metal pioneers DEATH. For The Dying Hunt, the duo are joined by NECROT drummer Chad Gailey.
Following 2022 debut Labyrinth Of Veins and 2023’s Aborted From Reality, the new record pushes STATIC ABYSS further into a nightmarish collision of brutal death metal, doom, crust, and psychedelic experimentation. Savage riffs and spiraling melodies shift between outright brutality and hypnotic, otherworldly passages, reflecting an ailing world and the unraveling psyche of those trapped within it.
The Dying Hunt was recorded at Earhammer Studios in Oakland, California, with Wilkinson handling engineering, mixing, and mastering. The album’s cover artwork was created by Jon Santos.
