Portugal’s enigmatic death metal conjurors The Ominous Circle will return this fall with their long-awaited sophomore album, Cloven Tongues of Fire, set for international release on November 28th through Osmose Productions on CD, vinyl, and cassette formats.
Following their acclaimed 2017 debut Appalling Ascension, the band plunges deeper into blackened death metal chaos with a record that promises to be their darkest, most uncompromising statement to date. Across 43 minutes, Cloven Tongues of Fire delivers a searing onslaught of low-tuned riffing, dissonant patterns, doom-laden weight, and wildfire rhythms. From the frantic blasting of Through Tunnels Ablaze to the colossal closer Utterance of the Formless, the album charts a descent into abyssal depths where death and black metal merge into an all-consuming vortex.
With mastering handled by Dan Lowndes, the record retains an organic and unrelenting atmosphere, a raw yet sophisticated production that underscores its confrontational nature.
The first single will premiere on October 17th, with preorders available now through Osmose.
