Swedish power metal band Tungsten have announced their fifth studio album, Ashes, set for release on October 9 via PERCEPTION, a division of Reigning Phoenix Music. The announcement arrives alongside the release of the band’s brand-new video single “Joker.”

“Joker” showcases a playful yet powerful side of Tungsten’s signature sound. Guitarist Nick Johansson shared the unexpected inspiration behind the track, recalling a fascination with legendary yodeling performer Franzl Lang that eventually evolved into years of experimenting with vocal technique in a humorous and spontaneous way. Lead vocalist Mike Andersson describes the track as “a real stompy banger,” noting the strong reactions it received during its early presentation to label partners.
Formed in 2016 by drummer Anders Johansson alongside his sons Nick and Karl Johansson, Tungsten quickly established themselves within the European metal scene. Their sound blends classic heavy metal foundations with modern melodic power metal elements, earning them growing recognition through albums such as We Will Rise (2019), Tundra, Bliss, and most recently The Grand Inferno (2024).
With Ashes, the band continues their evolution, delivering anthemic choruses, high-energy riffs, and a sharpened modern production style. The record represents a focused and powerful new chapter for the group, reflecting their growing confidence and identity within the genre.
