Latvian pagan folk and death metal band VARANG NORD have released their new full-length album Mygla, out now as of December 5. Spanning 10 tracks and over 42 minutes, the album draws deeply from ancient battles, forgotten rites, and wild northern feasts, channeling the presence of old gods into a raw and emotional modern form.
Alongside the album, VARANG NORD have unveiled a music video for the title track “Mygla”, available here:
Mygla is the band’s most personal work to date, shaped by some of the darkest and most transformative moments in the members’ lives. The writing process unfolded through both hardship and triumph, resulting in an album with a wide emotional range and shifting moods. VARANG NORD consider Mygla their strongest release so far, inviting listeners to walk through its atmosphere and discover something of their own within it.
Hailing from the shadowed forests of Latgale, Latvia, VARANG NORD have been active since 2014, forging a distinctive sound that blends crushing extreme metal riffs, guttural vocals, and epic accordion melodies. Their music is deeply rooted in pagan tradition while remaining fierce and contemporary.
Known for their immersive live performances, VARANG NORD turn the stage into a ritual space, appearing in armor and furs amid wooden idols and fire. Their shows channel a tribal energy that binds the audience into a single, primal force, solidifying the band as one of the most distinctive acts in the northern pagan metal scene.
The album artwork for Mygla was created by Arthur Urbanovich. The album is available as a digipak via Bandcamp.
