Norwegian metal band VREID have returned to unveil their upcoming album, The Skies Turn Black, arriving on March 6, 2026 through Indie Recordings. It has been five years since the band’s last full length effort, a period marked by transformation, challenge, and renewed artistic purpose. Now, VREID step forward with some of their most ambitious and emotionally driven work yet.
To mark the announcement, VREID have released the album’s first single, “From These Woods”, accompanied by an official music video. The song was born during early demo sessions at a secluded mountain cabin where inspiration struck late into the night. The band describes it as a rare moment of pure creative spark, a track that emerged almost fully formed and immediately felt central to the album’s identity. Its sound reconnects deeply with the band’s Sognametal roots while offering a refreshed sense of urgency and atmosphere.

According to VREID, the single signifies a renewed fire within the group. After three decades of creating and performing, they feel more focused than ever. As the band states, “This album pushed us to our limits, but it reminded us why we still do this. The fire is still there, stronger than ever.”
A Challenging and Transformative Creative Process
The band reflects on the making of The Skies Turn Black as one of the most intense periods of their career. Inspiration soon gave way to difficulty as communication, direction, and creative flow faltered. Through persistence and recalibration, VREID emerged with eleven tracks that capture the power of struggle and the reward of creative rebirth.
Working alongside producer Anders Nordengen and featuring artwork by Kim Holm, the album represents a full circle moment for VREID. They stand proudly behind the final result, calling it a meaningful evolution and one of the strongest releases in their extensive catalog.
Touring and the Road Ahead
With the album’s release, VREID are set to return to stages across Europe. In 2026, they will join Hypocrisy, Abbath, and Vomitory for a major European tour that brings their new material to many of the region’s legendary metal cities.
