ANTHRAX have released their new single and video, “Everybody’s Got A Plan,” taken from the band’s highly anticipated 12th studio album, Cursum Perficio, arriving September 18 via Megaforce Records.
The video was filmed primarily on July 7 at Estádio da Luz in Lisbon, Portugal, while ANTHRAX were touring Europe with Iron Maiden. Combining live footage with behind-the-scenes moments from the road, the clip also incorporates classic black-and-white boxing footage that plays into one of the song’s central lines: “Everybody’s got a plan / That’s until they get punched in the face.”
“‘Everybody’s Got a Plan’ has always been one of my favorite songs on Cursum Perficio,” drummer Charlie Benante says. “The video basically shows the band on and off stage in a montage of video clips that kinda matches the velocity of the song.”
Guitarist Scott Ian adds that the band wanted the video to capture the fun of touring, while bassist Frank Bello describes it as “a great representation of a day in the life of Anthrax on tour.”
“Everybody’s Got A Plan” follows previously released Cursum Perficio singles “It’s For The Kids” and “The Edge Of Perfection.” The former delivers the buzzsaw riffs, explosive drumming and hooks associated with classic ANTHRAX, while “The Edge Of Perfection” moves from a restrained opening into a much heavier attack.
Cursum Perficio marks ANTHRAX’s first studio album in a decade, following 2016’s For All Kings, which debuted inside the Top 10 of the Billboard 200. Its Latin title can be translated as “My journey has come to an end,” “My journey is over,” or “I complete my journey.”
The band began working seriously on the record in 2022, recording at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in Los Angeles. Produced by Jay Ruston and ANTHRAX, the album draws from the band’s history while expanding upon the sound they have developed throughout their career.
ANTHRAX have also teamed with artist Mark Stritzel and animator Emmanuel Cappellini for a series of animated shorts centered around characters featured on the Cursum Perficio artwork. New installments are being unveiled each Tuesday, exploring characters including the Magician, Woman In White, Dog, Winged Skeleton and Hands.
Cursum Perficio will be released in numerous CD and vinyl configurations, including standard editions and retailer- and merchandise-exclusive variants.
