Dutch black metal project BLACK DOOR has announced the release of its sophomore full-length album, In the Shadows of a Funerary Gleam, scheduled to arrive on August 28 via Wolves of Hades.
Following the atmospheric foundations established on its debut album, BLACK DOOR returns with a darker and more expansive vision. Led by mastermind and multi-instrumentalist Vestibulum, the project continues to explore themes of nocturnal mysticism, spiritual yearning, forgotten kingdoms, and the liminal space between life and death.
To mark the announcement, BLACK DOOR has unveiled the album’s title track, “In the Shadows of a Funerary Gleam.” The song serves as a thematic centerpiece for the record, blending haunting melodies, blackened aggression, and a vampiric sense of grandeur.
Speaking on the track, Vestibulum explained that the composition draws inspiration from the symbolic nature of fire, representing both the fading embers of ancient legacies and the spark of renewal capable of forging a new future. Rather than resurrecting the past through nostalgia, the song embraces transformation and evolution, channeling the enduring power of ideas through Promethean imagery.
Spanning nine tracks and over 42 minutes, In the Shadows of a Funerary Gleam unfolds as a singular narrative journey through spectral landscapes inhabited by restless spirits, forgotten rulers, and forces older than humanity itself. The album moves from the eerie opening instrumental “Grand Opening of the Carnival of Damned Spirits” through tales of lamenting specters, ancient celestial mysteries, and confrontations with mortality before culminating in the epic closer “Forged by Promethean Fire.”
Drawing influence from classic black metal traditions and vampiric romanticism, BLACK DOOR crafts a sound that balances haunting atmosphere, triumphant darkness, melancholic melody, and fierce aggression. While rooted in the genre’s past, the project avoids mere nostalgia, instead forging its own mythology through vivid storytelling and immersive world-building.
The album was written, performed, and composed entirely by Vestibulum. Mixing, photography, and layout design were handled by G.M., while mastering was completed by William Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios. The cover artwork was created by Grave Bastard.
In the Shadows of a Funerary Gleam will be released on LP, CD, cassette, and digital formats through Wolves of Hades.
