Post-deathcore band BURIAL PATH have released their crushing new single “Lilitu,” featuring guest vocals from Abigail Bexx. Accompanied by a powerful performance video, the track follows the band’s previous single, “A Display of Penance.”
Blending punishing rhythms, guttural vocals and ethereal orchestration, “Lilitu” explores themes of imposed identity, oppression and the struggle to reclaim personal autonomy. The track maintains an unrelenting intensity while using religious imagery to examine ideas and traditions that have historically reinforced patriarchal inequality.
Guest vocalist Abigail Bexx explains the inspiration behind the song:
“There’s a quiet pressure that comes with being a woman in extreme music. Before you open your mouth, people have already decided what you’ll sound like, what you’ll be capable of, or whether you belong at all. ‘Lilitu’ was born from that tension.”
Bexx describes the track as being for women who have felt confined by the expectations of others and have chosen to resist those limitations.
Guitarist Matthew McClure expands on the song’s themes:
“‘Lilitu’ is about rejecting imposed identity. The song progresses through several emotions, from recognizing the oppression of imposed identity to reclaiming one’s true identity and the freedom from that imposition.”
Formed in 2023, BURIAL PATH take a modern approach to deathcore, combining extreme heaviness with atmospheric production and orchestral elements intended to create a more emotionally immersive sound.
The band consists of Maya Pobst on vocals, Christian Caringer on bass, Matthew McClure and Martin Rosa III on guitars, and Nola Veru on drums.
