New York alternative metal veterans PRONG have released the official music video for “The Banner,” the first single from their forthcoming self-titled album, Prong, arriving November 6 via Napalm Records.
Serving as the album’s opening track, “The Banner” launches straight into the band’s trademark aggression, pairing tightly executed riffs with guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor’s unmistakable delivery. The track offers the first glimpse of an album that draws from the thrash, hardcore, industrial and melodic elements that have defined PRONG throughout their career.
Victor comments:
“We are unbelievably excited to share the first single, ‘The Banner,’ from our upcoming self-titled record. Andy Sneap’s mix and master is absolutely blistering and ferocious. This is just the beginning and we hope you enjoy it.”
Mixed and mastered by Andy Sneap, Prong moves across the different sides of the band’s sound. “New Commission” pushes the intensity established by the opener, while “The Uprising” brings industrial textures and synths into the mix. “Uncertain Truth” takes a more melodic approach before “Fear The Sun” dives into the band’s New York hardcore roots.
Elsewhere, “Proportionate Response” centers around themes of retaliation and justice, while “Simulated Drowning” delivers another burst of speed and aggression. Closing track “Our Continuance” ends the record with a slower, menacing pulse, discordant breakdowns and a synth-enhanced chorus.
Lyrically, Victor tackles subjects including truth, personal limitations and altruism while the album attempts to balance PRONG’s established identity with the different musical directions the band has explored over the decades.
