Oklahoma City noise rock band CHAT PILE have unveiled their latest single, “Same Rules,” offering another preview of their forthcoming third full-length, Who Loves the Sun, due September 4.
Following the bleak Americana of their acclaimed debut God’s Country and the global systemic violence explored on 2024’s Cool World, CHAT PILE turn their attention toward collective indifference and the slow decay of modern existence on Who Loves the Sun.
The record confronts everything from coastlines disappearing amid climate inaction and the suffocating reality of dead-end work to society’s increasing submission to data-driven inauthenticity. Together, the songs depict a 21st-century existence caught in a seemingly endless doom loop.
Latest single “Same Rules” maintains the band’s aggressive and confrontational character while introducing a stronger melodic and hook-driven approach. The track also came together through an unusual recording experiment.
Bassist Stin explains:
“First real Chat Pile song mostly recorded on 4-track cassette. Ray B. had given us the challenge to write a trip hop song and this is what we came up with. Unfortunately he’s rejected ‘Same Rules’ from the challenge as he claims it’s not trip hop at all and that we have to try again. Perhaps we’ll get it right next time.”
Vocalist Ray B. expands on the ideas running through the album:
“Everyone needs to read as much as possible. There is so little emphasis put on knowledge right now—it is your most important tool. Engagement with the world might lead to death, but shutting off and staring at your phone all day is suicide.”
Formed just over six years ago, CHAT PILE — Ray B. on vocals, L. Manhole on guitar, Stin on bass and Cap’n Ron on drums — have grown from an Oklahoma City passion project into one of the most distinctive heavy bands to emerge from the 2020s underground.
Their crushing and often uncomfortable collision of noise rock, sludge and raw social commentary continues throughout Who Loves the Sun, with the band examining apathy, technological overreach and the increasingly disconnected nature of modern society.

CHAT PILE are currently on the road, with European dates continuing through August before the band launches an extensive North American run in September. The U.S. trek includes appearances at Riot Fest and Saddest Day Festival alongside a lengthy headline run featuring Soul Glo, Prize Horse, Virga and Shallowater on select dates.
