Cryptopsy Drops NSFW “Malicious Needs” Video from Upcoming Album An Insatiable Violence

Canadian brutal technical death metal legends Cryptopsy have unleashed the music video for “Malicious Needs,” the second single from their ninth album, An Insatiable Violence, set for release on June 20, 2025, via Season of Mist. The video, released today, May 13, 2025, at 11:18 AM EDT, comes with a graphic content warning due to its NSFW nature, featuring disturbing themes that couldn’t be shown uncensored on YouTube. Directed by Gornoss, who also handled visual effects and editing, the video includes gore makeup FX by Laurent Smiejczak and stars Romain Gonçalves as the main character, John, alongside a cast portraying a toxic corporate environment. Filmed with support from Metropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée, the video’s dark, visceral imagery aligns with the band’s allegory for society’s toxic relationship with social media—a concept inspired by vocalist Matt McGachy’s dream of a self-torturing machine, reflecting his own struggles with platforms like his Vox & Hops podcast.

The track itself, clocking in at 5:52, is a groove-heavy closer to the album, showcasing Cryptopsy’s signature blend of blistering speed and controlled chaos. Flo Mounier’s drumming, Oli Pinard’s bass slaps, Christian Donaldson’s jagged riffs, and McGachy’s deepened growls amplify the song’s sinister tone, produced and mastered by Donaldson at his studio. For those into Suffocation or Necrofrost, “Malicious Needs” shows a hint of what’s to come.
