DANHEIM Releases New Single “Urblod,” Exploring the Primordial Forces of Norse Mythology

Danish Nordic folk and ambient project DANHEIM, led by Copenhagen-based producer Reidar Schæfer Olsen, has released its new single, “Urblod,” via Season of Mist. The track follows the project’s 2025 album Heimferd and marks a return to the mythological storytelling that shaped DANHEIM’s earlier material.

Built around ritualistic chants, atmospheric textures, and powerful percussion, “Urblod” pays tribute to the Jötnar, the primordial beings of Norse mythology whose existence predates the familiar world of the gods.

Drawing inspiration from ancient figures such as Ymir, Bergelmir, Þrúðgelmir, Bölþorn, Bestla, and Hræsvelgr, the composition explores themes of creation, ancestry, and the untamed forces of nature.

Olsen explains the inspiration behind the single:

“I wanted this track to feel like a chant reaching back beyond the gods, toward the oldest beings in Norse mythology. The Jötnar are not simply monsters or enemies of the gods: they represent something much older — primordial forces, and the untamed world from which everything else emerges.”

The release follows Heimferd, which arrived on October 31, 2025, through Season of Mist. Featuring 13 tracks, the album marked DANHEIM’s first full-length release in four years, combining thunderous percussion with minimalist ambient passages.

Unlike the mythology-focused “Urblod,” Heimferd was conceived as a more personal, instinct-driven exploration of ancestry and belonging rather than a traditional retelling of Norse sagas.

With “Urblod,” DANHEIM continues to expand its distinctive blend of Nordic folk traditions, ritualistic rhythms, and immersive soundscapes.
