Philadelphia blackened punk band DEVIL MASTER have announced their new full-length album, Bloody Dreams, arriving September 4 via Relapse Records. Alongside the announcement, the band has released the album’s first single and official music video, You Worms’ Vain Delusions.
Continuing the band’s distinctive fusion of black metal, punk, psychedelic rock, and gothic aesthetics, Bloody Dreams expands upon the sound DEVIL MASTER have cultivated since their formation in 2015. Written entirely by guitarist Darkest Prince, the six-track album embraces themes of decadence, mysticism, and mortality while maintaining the group’s raw, confrontational energy.
Discussing the band’s approach to the album, Darkest Prince reflected on the origins of the word “gothic” and how it connects to DEVIL MASTER’s music:
“Our psychedelic blend of black metal and punk is defiant. Literally the marriage and definition of the whole history of the etymology of the word ‘gothic,’ of the barbarian punk side up to the spiritual, dark, supernatural, gothic evil.”
He also cited Greek, Andean, and cumbia folk traditions as major influences on the new material, describing folk music as “eternal” and a source of inspiration that transcends genres.
Bloody Dreams was engineered by Davis M. Shubs and Grammy-nominated engineer Eric Bogacz, while Arthur Rizk handled mastering. The album also features guest appearances from Mirai Kawashima (Sigh), former Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh, and Ur Èmdr Œrvn (Arkha Sva).
