DEVIL MASTER have unveiled “Sex with Succubus,” the final preview of their forthcoming new album, Bloody Dreams, out September 4 via Relapse Records.
The new version of “Sex with Succubus” revisits one of DEVIL MASTER’s earliest tracks, originally appearing on their debut release Manifestations. The band brought the song back into their live set at the suggestion of drummer Wrought by Fathomless Hands, eventually deciding to re-record it for the new album.
“‘Sex with Succubus’ was added to our live set again at the behest of drummer Wrought by Fathomless Hands and it ended up a perfect addition to this record’s vibe, hearkening back to our beginnings,” says Darkest Prince.
Bloody Dreams finds the Philadelphia outfit pushing further into the collision of black metal, punk, psychedelia and folk music that has defined their increasingly singular sound. Darkest Prince cites Greek and Andean folk music and Cumbia among the album’s primary inspirations, alongside longtime influences including G.I.S.M., Bathory and Vlad Tepes.
“The only thing I’m inspired by is Greek and Andean folk music, as well as Cumbia,” Darkest Prince explains. “Folk is eternal. I think that resonates with people. It’s been cultivated forever. It’s archetypal, primal. It taps into something across cultures.”
Written entirely by Darkest Prince, Bloody Dreams was mastered by Arthur Rizk and engineered by Davis M. Shubs and Grammy-nominated engineer Eric Bogacz. The six-track record also features guest appearances from Mirai Kawashima of Sigh, former Power Trip drummer Chris Ulsh and Ur Èmdr Œrvn of Arkha Sva.
