WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM Announce New Album ‘Estuary,’ Share “Ghosts Among the Obelisks”

American black metal titans WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM have announced their new studio album, Estuary, arriving October 23 via Relapse Records in North America. Alongside the announcement, the band have unveiled the album’s first single, “Ghosts Among the Obelisks,” accompanied by a new music video.

Described as the band’s most ferocious and genre-bending record to date, Estuary continues WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM’s dedication to physical craft and analog production while expanding their sound with noisy industrial textures, massive percussion and seething gothic guitars.

Guitarist and vocalist Nathan Weaver explains the world behind the record:

“Our new LP Estuary is set 1000 years in the future after the end of civilization. Survivors of a cataclysm wander the haunted ruins. It is a world of mutant creatures and open portals. Post-apocalyptic religion takes form in a wild landscape.”

Throughout Estuary, WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM explore the tension between stillness and noise, animal and machine, elemental forces and electricity. The album imagines a distant future where wilderness has reclaimed civilization and estuaries have become powerful nexuses where the supernatural manifests physically.

“If wilderness overcame the cities in the future, the estuaries would be realms of power and magic,” Weaver adds. “Within the album’s world-building, the estuaries are key nexus points where magic has taken on physical form. Spirits good and evil walk the earth.”

The newly released “Ghosts Among the Obelisks” offers the first glimpse into that post-apocalyptic landscape. Its accompanying video follows a warrior traveling from the lowlands of the old world toward a mountain sanctuary, moving through forgotten ruins inhabited by ancient spirits as nature slowly reclaims what civilization once conquered.

Estuary was produced by WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM and features touring bassist Galen Baudhuin (Aridus, Street Tombs), who contributes the album’s low end. Most of the record was captured at the band’s Owl Lodge studio in Olympia, Washington, while drums were tracked by Nicholas Wilbur at The Unknown, a converted former church in Anacortes, Washington.

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM will also appear at Fire In The Mountains at The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, taking place January 15–17, 2027.
