Swedish D-beat and crust punk veterans DISFEAR have unleashed their latest single, “Shackled to Our Vice,” taken from their long-awaited album, The Last Nail, arriving November 20, 2026, via Relapse Records.
The upcoming release carries profound significance for the band, serving as a final testament to the contributions of late vocalist Tomas Lindberg and drummer Marcus Andersson, both of whom passed away after recording the album.
Blending their trademark D-beat aggression with downtuned rock ‘n’ roll, “Shackled to Our Vice” delivers the relentless intensity that has defined DISFEAR’s sound. The track charges forward with pounding rhythms, abrasive guitars, and Lindberg’s unmistakable vocal delivery, offering another glimpse into what promises to be an emotionally powerful final chapter.
A final statement from two fallen metal icons
The Last Nail was recorded before the untimely deaths of Lindberg and Andersson, making the album both a celebration of DISFEAR’s enduring legacy and a tribute to the musicians who helped shape its identity.
Despite their respective illnesses, both musicians remained determined to see the album released. Together with their bandmates, they viewed The Last Nail as an urgent creative statement, refusing to let their circumstances diminish the music’s intensity or purpose.
The album’s themes of mortality, disease, and darkness have taken on an especially poignant meaning following the musicians’ passing.
During a visit to Welfare Sounds in Gothenburg in spring 2023, Lindberg had originally planned to make minor adjustments to previously recorded demo vocals. Instead, inspired by the creative momentum of the session, he re-recorded his performances across all eight tracks.
Later that year, Lindberg received a cancer diagnosis that would significantly limit his musical activities.
The lyrical themes he explored during those recording sessions now carry additional emotional weight, reflecting an unsettling connection between the album’s subject matter and the challenges he would subsequently face.
DISFEAR deliver uncompromising aggression on The Last Nail
For the recording of The Last Nail, DISFEAR worked with several respected names in heavy music production.
Instrumental sessions took place at God City Studios with Kurt Ballou and at Welfare Sounds with Per Stålberg. The album was subsequently mixed by Magnus Lindberg at Redmount Studios and mastered by Sören Von Malmborg at Cosmos Mastering.
The resulting record captures DISFEAR’s uncompromising musical identity, combining the urgency of hardcore punk, the ferocity of crust, and the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll.
While the band’s signature intensity remains firmly intact, The Last Nail also incorporates looser, groove-driven passages that add another dimension to its aggressive foundation.
Rather than softening their approach, these elements reinforce the band’s distinctive sound, creating a record that balances unrestrained aggression with the rebellious spirit that has always defined DISFEAR.
With eight tracks of punishing D-beat and relentless guitar work, the album stands as a powerful statement from a group that has remained influential across the punk and metal underground.
