German pagan-metallers EQUILIBRIUM return with “Borrowed Waters”, their spellbinding new single featuring ethereal witchy-pop artist RONIIT. The song, accompanied by a lush, earthbound video filmed amidst forest and flame, marks the third single from the band’s highly anticipated album Equinox, out November 28th, 2025 via Nuclear Blast Records.
Watch “Borrowed Waters”:
“So let us flow, let us fade,
In borrowed waters, life is made.
Tides may shift and bones may wane,
Those waters—they remember our names…”
A meditation on surrender and the natural cycles of life, “Borrowed Waters” unites Equilibrium’s sweeping cinematic metal with Roniit’s mystical dark-pop energy. The collaboration flows effortlessly, conjuring the feeling of ancient tides and renewal.
René Berthiaume comments:
“This is the first original song of Equilibrium not primarily written by me. When Jessy first showed me the demo, I immediately felt connected to it. Letting others contribute so deeply to the project was an incredibly fulfilling process. Working with Roniit felt completely natural—her authenticity shines through every note, and her performance perfectly captures the spirit of the song.”
Jessica Rösch adds:
“‘Borrowed Waters’ is about surrender—about moving with life and remembering our connection to nature and the cycles that shape us.
It was written during a time of uncertainty and became a song of grounding and acceptance. It’s the first song I’ve ever written for another artist to sing, and hearing Roniit bring it to life was deeply moving. She captured the heart of the song perfectly. Collaborating with René feels like speaking a language only we understand—our different writing styles merge into something whole.”
Roniit shares:
“I grew up listening to pagan and symphonic metal, which has deeply influenced my witchy dark-pop sound. Working with Equilibrium felt like coming full circle. The message of ‘Borrowed Waters’ really resonated with me—it’s about remembering that we are part of nature, not separate from it. I live in the forest and practice magic, and this song feels like a reminder of that truth.”

For nearly 25 years, EQUILIBRIUM have embodied balance amid chaos, creating life-affirming pagan metal that bridges myth and modernity. Returning after a hiatus, founding visionary René Berthiaume and Jessica Rösch lead the band into a new era with Equinox, a record of renewal and authenticity.
Featuring new vocalist Fabian Getto, Equinox blends traditional instrumentation with futuristic production, channeling both the ancient and the immediate. The album was produced by the band and mixed by Danny McCook, with guest appearances from Shir-Ran Yinon (ex-Eluveitie) and members of Heidevolk.
Visually, Equinox reflects this same purity, its cover artwork painted entirely by Rösch without the use of AI, reinforcing the band’s devotion to real art for real times.
EQUILIBRIUM return not just as musicians, but as modern storytellers—reclaiming connection, unity, and spirit through music that honors both the earth and the storm.
