San Diego-based “brutalambient” instrumental duo Fermentor—Dylan Marks (drums, also of Atheist) and Adam “Wally” Wollach (guitar)—will release their third and final chapter of an ambitious trilogy, Agreement, on August 15, 2025. Following 2023’s Mind Meld and early 2025’s Release Me, this 17-track album blends the ferocity of death metal with the atmospheric, improvisational textures of post-rock, creating a fierce yet fluid soundscape that defies categorization.
The lead single, “Dead Farm,” is available now, showcasing the duo’s signature mix of crushing riffs, looping grooves, and dynamic shifts. Recorded live without click tracks, Agreement is described by the band as “the closing statement” in their experimental journey, pushing emotional and technical boundaries. Stream “Dead Farm” on Apple Music or Bandcamp.

Agreement is a testament to Fermentor’s evolution, balancing raw aggression with intricate, free-form compositions. The 17 tracks, fully improvised, were recorded with the same live energy as Release Me, emphasizing the duo’s chemistry and technical prowess. Dylan Marks, known for his work with progressive death metal band Atheist, brings a recognizable intensity, while Wollach’s guitar weaves hypnotic, layered melodies. The album follows the critical success of Mind Meld (2023), praised for its production quality, and Release Me (2025), which expanded their fanbase with weekly video releases.
Formed in 2008, Fermentor’s journey began with their debut EP Matanzaa, recorded in just four weeks. After releasing Fermentor (2011) and Rate of Cognition (2015) EPs, they gained a cult following for their explosive live shows alongside acts like Behold!… The Arctopus and Captured by Robots. Their 2020 debut album Continuance introduced cinematic videos like “Seventh Circle,” while Mind Meld (2023) and Release Me (2025) solidified their reputation for genre-defying innovation. The 2024 FermenTOUR brought their chaotic energy to West Coast stages, and a 2025 tour is planned to support Agreement.
Fermentor will hit the road again in 2025, with details forthcoming. Expect high-energy performances that channel the raw intensity of Agreement. Check fermentorband.com for updates.
