Finnish dark metal band TORCHIA has released a new lyric video for “Stygian Waters”, the latest single taken from their upcoming fourth full-length album, They Are Born Under Rules of the Darkness, due out May 8, 2026 via Rockshots Records.
“Stygian Waters” marks a deliberate return to Torchia’s early, guitar-driven aggression while pushing their sound deeper into cinematic and gothic territory. Rooted in thrash-infused melodic death metal, the track surges forward with relentless riffing and urgent momentum, enhanced by ominous atmospheres and dark melodic tension that reinforce the band’s occult aesthetic.
The band comments on the song’s origins:
“‘Stygian Waters’ is a throwback to the early years of Torchia, built around intense riffing and almost relentless forward momentum. When the riffs first came together, they immediately evoked the image of a raging ocean and towering waves. From there, the lyrics took shape as a maritime disaster—a desperate struggle against overwhelming natural forces, with the sense that something darker and more supernatural may also be at play.”
Lyrically, the song depicts a harrowing battle for survival, where human resolve is tested against forces far beyond control. Reality and the uncanny blur as the narrative unfolds, fitting seamlessly into Torchia’s expanding cursed fantasy universe—a realm inhabited by ancient gods, occult rituals, and gothic horror imagery.
Musically, “Stygian Waters” highlights the band’s evolving identity. Razor-sharp guitar work remains front and center, while cinematic layering and darker tonal shades add depth and dramatic weight.
