Finnish black/thrash metal band FLAME have announced their long-awaited third full-length album, Ignis Draconis Daemonicus, set for international release on September 25 through Primitive Reaction on CD and vinyl LP formats.
Originally formed in 1998 in Kuopio by former members of Barathrum and Urn, FLAME built a reputation through a series of demos and split releases before issuing their debut album, Into the Age of Fire. The band’s blend of old-school black thrash and bestial metal continued with 2011’s March Into Firelands, followed years later by the acclaimed 2020 mini-album Ignis Spiritus.
Now returning with their first full-length in over a decade, Ignis Draconis Daemonicus expands upon the atmosphere introduced on Ignis Spiritus while retaining the band’s signature balance of raw aggression and epic songwriting. The album’s Latin title translates to “Fire of the Demonic Dragon” and reflects a lyrical shift toward occult philosophy and spiritual transformation.
Founding vocalist and guitarist Blackvenom explained that the new material draws inspiration from esoteric traditions including Thelema, Typhonian and Draconian practices, Chaos Magick, and Luciferian philosophy. Rather than focusing solely on blasphemous themes, the lyrics explore concepts of inner power, true will, and personal transformation.
The band also sought to elevate the album’s production. Recording was handled by Chris Nunravager at Rat Nest Recording, while mixing and mastering were completed by Greg Chandler of Esoteric at Priory Recording Studios in the UK. According to Blackvenom, the goal was to achieve the band’s heaviest and most dynamic sound to date while maintaining its underground spirit.
To preview the album, FLAME has released the opening track, “Kaosphere,” which is now available to stream.
