Black metal duo HULDER have released “In Blood and In Earth,” the second and final single from their forthcoming third full-length album, Verbolgen, due out August 7 via 20 Buck Spin in North America and Season of Mist in Europe.
Accompanied by an official music video directed by Newfoundland filmmaker Justin Oakey, the seven-minute composition serves as the final preview of the album before its release. Drawing heavily from folk horror imagery, the video presents a bleak narrative centered on a family struggling to survive in a hostile landscape while an ominous supernatural force gradually reveals itself.
Musically, “In Blood and In Earth” unfolds from restrained, atmospheric passages into sweeping black metal crescendos, with HULDER weaving themes of ritual, ancestry, and devotion throughout the track. The band describes the song as both “a warning and a spell,” inviting listeners into the album’s overarching exploration of humanity’s connection to the land and those who came before.
Verbolgen was recorded between Elektric City Recording in Portland, Oregon, and additional locations handled by the band. The album was mixed by Ahti Kortelainen at Tico Tico Studios in Kemi, Finland, and mastered by Mika Jussila at Finnvox Studios in Helsinki. Produced by HULDER, the record also marks the first album to officially credit Necreon as co-leader of the project, reflecting a creative partnership that has existed behind the scenes for years.
The album artwork was painted by Morrigan, with logo design by Jannicke Wiese Hansen and photography by Liana Rakijian.
