Indianapolis melodic death/doom metal band MOTHER OF GRAVES have released their new full-length album, The Light That Keeps Us, today, October 16, via Profound Lore Records. The eight-track offering is now available on CD, vinyl, and digital platforms, delivering a powerful exploration of mortality, sorrow, love, and resilience.
Following their critically acclaimed sophomore album, The Periapt Of Absence, which earned the #11 position on Decibel Magazine’s Top 40 Albums of the Year list, MOTHER OF GRAVES continue to refine their distinctive blend of crushing death metal and melancholic, melodic doom.
Driven by the songwriting of guitarists Chris Morrison and Ben Sandman, the commanding rhythm section of bassist Corey Clark and drummer Don Curtis, and the emotionally charged vocals and keyboards of Brandon Howe, The Light That Keeps Us showcases a band increasingly confident in its musical identity.
The album balances devastating heaviness with haunting melodies and deeply personal themes, creating an immersive listening experience rooted in the traditions of classic death/doom while pushing the band’s sound forward.
Production duties were once again handled by guitarist Ben Sandman, whose approach emphasizes the organic character of the band’s performances, allowing the emotional weight of each composition to take center stage.
One of the album’s standout moments comes with opening track “Wingless Soul,” featuring guest vocals from legendary musician and producer Dan Swanö. Having previously worked with the band as a mastering engineer, Swanö’s vocal contribution represents a significant milestone for MOTHER OF GRAVES, whose music draws inspiration from the rich history of melodic death and doom metal.
The band previously unveiled a music video for “The Silent Weight Of The Stars,” offering listeners an early glimpse into the album’s atmospheric depth and emotional intensity.
Throughout its eight compositions, The Light That Keeps Us moves between crushing riffs, mournful melodies, and introspective passages, reinforcing MOTHER OF GRAVES’ growing reputation within the contemporary death/doom scene.
